What is Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising?

Pay Per Click advertising is a targeted, highly-effective way for large and small businesses to generate quality sales traffic. Traffic is generated through placement of advertising with search engine results or throughout other websites. When displayed with search engine results this is referred to as Sponsored PPC advertising.

Advertisers using Keyword PPC bid on "keywords", which can be words or phrases, and can include product model numbers. When a user searches for a particular word or phrase in a search engine, the list of advertiser links will appear within the page in order of bidding.

How much do companies pay for these ads?

The unique thing about Pay Per Click advertising is that advertisers only pay when a user views and clicks on the ad. The price of the advertisement will depend on how many competitors are bidding on the keyword and the price those companies are willing to pay for a click. Most providers of PPC ads have a minimum bid level of 10 cents per click.
